ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2003

1.   Introduction

European Movement in Smederevska Palanka in 2003 even in complex circumstances for work of nongovernmental organizations in Serbia and Montenegro. succeed to work successfully on several projects/programs in cooperation with partner organizations. We underline our successful cooperation with our main partners in 2003. NGO Center for Development of Nongovernmental Sector from Belgrade, Greek NGO European Perspective, American NGO ACDI/VOCA and NGO Forum from Kraljevo. From Southeast Europe we underline our cooperation with European House from Hungary and Foundation for Democratic Change from Romania in framework of network of nongovernmental organizations from Southeast Europe whose member we are. Also we have started cooperation with Center for Social Work from Smederevska Palanka and with Danish Refugee Council. In framework of international cooperation we underline continuation of cooperation with NGO CommunityArts from Berlin in the framework of projects «Between the Lines of South Eastern Europe- Transition and Identity» for young people. Main part of this project will be realized in 2004.

We are specially thankful to our main donors through our partnership networks:   European Commission, USAID and Hellenic AID.

Also we are thankful to all who had supported us and we are wishing further successful cooperation with them.

*    Development of the open forum of citizens and organizations (at local, regional and national level) aimed at facilitating and establishing dialogue, exchange of information, and fostering mutual understanding, solidarity, cooperation and communication.

OUR PRINCIPLES - Investing in peoples' knowledge and skills is an efficient way for institutional development and promotion change; Training is a tool for capacity building but also for changing attitudes and stimulate initiative at community level; Collaboration and expertise exchange at regional and national level are efficient ways for learning from each others' successes and failures; Participatory and interactive problem solving processes build partnerships and prevent conflicts; Autonomous, accountable and active local governments are the foundation of democracy; Effective and efficient local governments are crucial for the change management and local development processes; For effective & efficient local governance is more important to have knowledge and skills than capital investment.

European Movement in Smederevska Palanka is not party-oriented and is open to everyone who contributes to the promotion of European values and development of the local community.

Within our programmes we are covering following municipalities: Aranđelovac, Batočina, Ćuprija, Despotovac, Golubac, Jagodina, Kučevo, Lapovo, Malo Crniće, Paraćin, Petrovac, Požarevac, Rača, Ražanj, Smederevo, Smederevska Palanka, Svilajnac, Topola, Velika Plana, Veliko Gradište, Žabari, Žagubica.

Beside work on local level European Movement in Smederevska Palanka act on national and international level through partnership cooperation with different organizations that share our mission and vision.

Special forms of activities of the European Movement in Smederevska Palanka are workshops, public talks, campaigns, publishing (in printed or electronic form) as well as other forms of activities in accordance with the mission of the organization.

During our work we have established ourselves as creative organization with large level of professionalism. Thanks to cooperation with other nongovernmental organizations, local governments, medias and other actors of civil society European Movement in Smederevska Palanka affirmed itself as civil society resource center in the region where we work.

3.   Key activities - basic data

Activities of the European Movement in Smederevska Palanka are conducted in cooperation with partner organizations from Serbia and Montenegro and from abroad. In 2003 European Movement in Smederevska Palanka was more than 220 working days on service for nongovernmental organizations, medias and citizens with more than 5000 working hours and with four employees.

We made contacts with more than 170 NGOs from southeast Serbia and with local government from 22 municipalities (self. contact, phone, email, fax). In NGO directory we have registered more than 60 new NGOs which present growth of evidenced NGOs for more than 50%. This present growth of reputation of organization and confidence which we enjoy.

In the public talks, seminars/workshops, trainings and volunteer activities in organization of European Movement in Smederevska in 2003 were included more than 300 different citizens.

European Movement in Smederevska Palanka has conducted many press conferences and published many press release for different occasions (project reports, workshops and trainings conclusions etc) We broadcasted information in different medias (Internet, European Movement in Smederevska Palanka bulletin “Civil Society”, radio and TV programs) about activities of civil society institutions. In 2003 we have made more than 1500 digital photos from our and from other civil society actors activities. For successful realization of our activities we realized more than 3000 phone calls, sanded more than 1500 letters and more than 500 emails to more than 3000 addresses.

Beside this European Movement in Smederevska Palanka has published the book “Guide for Fundraising for Civil Society Institutions” from own resources in 1000 copies.

On the occasion of three weeks visit of the president European Movement in Smederevska Palanka to United States of America in the program of US government for NGOs we made CD.

On the occasion of participation of representatives of European Movement in Smederevska Palanka in activities of partner organizations we informed public and published photos via Internet for activities participants. Representatives of European Movement in Smederevska Palanka participated in more than 10 trainings, public talks and workshops of partner organizations which created opportunity for exchange of knowledge and experiences and raise capacity for further work. Because of this European Movement in Smederevska Palanka is specially thankful to Greek NGO European Perspective, Center for Nonprofit Sector from Belgrade, NGOForum from Kraljevo, NGO Panonija from Novi Sad, Foundation for Democratic Change from Romania, American NGO ACDI/VOCA, American embassy in Serbia and Montenegro, European House from Hungary, on opportunity for exchange of knowledge and experiences and on opportunity to learn from each other.

Our technical capacities are significantly advanced in 2003 after acquiring photocopy machine, PC computer with software, scanner, laser printer and  furniture from European Union in the framework of the project “Promotion of Pluralism by Strengthening NGOs and Civil Society in Serbia” project which we relies with Greek NGO European Perspective and with car GOLF D2 which is donation from American Embassy in Serbia and Montenegro.
